I am not wont to post heavy-duty technical stuff too often but could not pass this item up.
The unsaturated zone (aka 'vadose zone') textbook by James Tindall and James Kunkel, shown at left, is one of the best ones I've ever seen. Just the right dose of theory and practice for a first course in UZ hydrology.
The first edition was published by Prentice Hall in 1999 and sold out within five years. A second edition is slated for 2009.
It is now available free online, thanks to the authors, Prentice Hall, and the USGS. This will be especially good for students and professionals in developing countries. Such a deal!
From the WWW site:
The second edition will be published in 2009 in which there will be significant changes. Several changes to the 2nd edition include the addition of three new modeling chapters, the addition and availability of popular models made available with the 2nd edition, including a macropore model, a revised instructor’s solutions manual, and other significant changes. However, despite these changes and release of the 2nd edition it is the authors' intent to keep the first edition freely available.
"I wish I'd had this book; it would have saved me the trouble of deriving my equation." -- L.A. Richards
The download link is the highlighted text 'free online'. I have also highlighted the text at the start of the second paragraph. And if you still can't find it, try here:
