You won't find any Otis Redding or Herman's Hermits like last week but that won't diminish the impact of Emily Green's current The Week That Was post. But you'll find some music down at the bottom.
Still in Paris but I never get my fill of water news from the good ol' USA. The Euros and others were quite surprised at the complexity of and acrimony surrounding our water issues, especially conflict among the states and municipalities, given the fact that we are supposed to be one country. And a number of them had heard of the Bay-Delta!
So what else is new?
Well, Lake Mead may be dropping, but in Panama, Lago Gatún and Lago Alajuela are at all-time highs. Yeah, the Panama Canal was closed due to rain.
The Delaware River Basin Commission is being taken to task by local Sierra Clubbers for its recent rules regarding hydrofracking of the Marcellus Shale.
And what would one of Green's weekly summaries be without California water news? The Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District is defending its wastewater treatment plant, while a local water quality board is imposing more pollution controls on SRCSD's plant. More nitrogen species, anyone? How about less?
PG&E's cleanup of hexavalent chromium in Hinkley is in the news. Probably enough fodder for another Erin Brockovich movie. Lord, have mercy!
I heard that Brockovich will be portraying Maude Barlow in an upcoming biopic. Not!
But Brockovich, shown here minus the boobs and heels, is back helping the folks in Hinkley.
Plenty more from where this came: arsenic in Maine, Florida's being picked on (awww...), the Marines, bubble curtains, Coca-Cola, East Chicago, Ohio, the Bay Area, and lots more!
And today's quote is from Green's post; it conjures that wonderful John Fogerty song about 'Oh Lord, stuck in Lodi again'.
Better Paris than Lodi!
“Enjoy your next two years. You are so done. You’re worthless.” — Former board member John Ferreira to new board chairman Bryan Pilkington, North San Joaquin Water Conservation District’s stormy session, Lodi News-Sentinel, 7 December 2010
