Ken (left) and Pat Reid of AWRA rolled out the red carpet and their legendary hospitality for a bunch of WaterWonks and other friends at the 90th annual Middleburg Spring Races, Saturday, 23 April 2011. Middleburg, about 20 miles west of Dulles International Airport on U.S. Route 50, is in the heart of Virginia's horse country.
The day started out cloudy and rainy, but the sun's emergence coincided with the arrival of Joan and Steve Stockton (Director, Civil Works, USACE-HQ), shown here with Mary Lou DeChantal.
Neither Steve nor Joan would take credit for the sunshine.
Yours truly managed to get into a picture with Steve and TNC's Karen Krchnak (nice shades). Photographer Ada Benavides (USACE-HQ) then switched places and joined Steve and Karen.
Who dat holding the bottled water?
I managed to get a shot of Susan and Jerry Delli Priscoli (USACE-IWR) and Gerry Galloway (retired U.S. Army; U of MD) engaged in a far-ranging philosophical discussion about the merits of a topic that escapes me. But I know it was important.
All in all, a good time was had by all. Lots of good food, drink, and stimulating conversation.
And rumor had it that there were even some horses there. But no Marx Brothers.
"Other than being castrated, things have gone quite well for Funny Cide." -- ESPN commentator Kenny Mayne, before the start of the 2003 Belmont Stakes
