Tomorrow, 21 May 2013, will likely be known to some Portlanders as a day of infamy.
Regardless of the outcome of tomorrow's fluoridation vote tally (and here in Oregon we vote only by mail), some citizens will be quite unhappy, even distraught, although not distraught enough to forsake their favorite Pinot Noir, beloved Subaru station wagon, dog grooming parlor, artisanal what-have-you, or triple caffè latte.
But somehow the losers will soldier on.
Much has been made of how this issue splits the city's liberals; even the Wall Sreet Journal (the cartoon is from the WSJ; the sign photo from The Oregonian) checked in with a story. The legendary civility of Portlanders has taken a hit in a few instances. Even sign stealing has been reported! And big money!

Come 22 May, all will be forgotten, right? I don't think so.
Note added on 22 May 2013: the measure to fluoridate was soundly defeated by about 60% (against) - 40% (for).
