This week's featured book? Close to home for a change. Sean Fleming, who is a Master's graduate of Oregon State University and has courtesy appointments at CEOAS and UBC, has just published a general-audience book about the science of rivers, Where the River Flows: Scientific Reflections on Earth's Waterways.
In his own words:
I've just published a general-audience book about the science of rivers. It's geophysically focused and covers things like where their water comes from, why droughts and floods happen, the importance of aquifers, how we make forecasts of river levels, and the effects of climate change. It's not research, or a textbook either - it's meant for everyone to read. It's being published by Princeton University Press and it's receiving some good reviews already, for example from Science News. I recently gave a public talk on it at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.
You can bet it's on my list!

User's Guide - if you are new to this summary: each of the items here is a Tweet from my WaterWired Twitter account for the week ending today, arranged by category. It is not a comprehensive summary of the week's water news; it is my summary.
To access a story, click on the link beginning with 'http://', 'is.gd', or 'bit.ly' (usually). Clicking on a link beginning with '@' will take you to that person's Twitter account; clicking on a link beginning with '#' (hashtag) will take you to a Twitter list containing Tweets about a particular topic. Some items may not have a hot link to a story, which is fine - it may have been just an informational item or a personal message to someone. Or, I may have screwed up and forgotten the link!
