Great story on US groundwater's 'race to the bottom' by Brett Walton (@waltonwater) in @circleofblue. The article is based on a paper by the power duo from UC-Santa Barbara: Debra Perrone and Scott Jasechko: Deeper well drilling an unsustainable stopgap to groundwater depletion.

I have started a new category - Global Water (#globalwater) - for items outside the US & Canada that don't neatly fit into other categories. The items this week feature Chennai, Bangladesh and hydrophilanthropy.
The links below represent the week's water news as represented by my Tweets. I do not pretend that this survey is a comprehensive survey of the water news; it's my attempt to keep my readers informed to the best of my ability and available time.
Scroll down to 'Positions Open' and 'Previous Weeks' Positions Open' to see the jobs. All my individual job Tweets are archived at #JobWaWi. Previous weekly summaries are archived at: #WaWiNews or click here.

Michael,
thanks for posting the paper: "Deeper well drilling an unsustainable stopgap to groundwater depletion" . . . I suppose those who drill and pump from deeper wells think that they are somehow NOT impacting (i.e., overdrawing) groundwater!!
And with the discovery of an extensive freshwater aquifer beneath the sea floor off New England, I suspect there are those who are already scheming on how they can usurp that water, too.
